Scares That Care is an all-volunteer charity founded in 2006. Net proceeds from all organization events are provided to the selected recipients. Every year, Scares That Care gives a gift of $10,000 to three individuals: a breast cancer patient, a burn victim, and a sick child.

The 2025 scheduled event, AuthorCon 5, will be held from March 28 – 30 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Williamsburg, Virginia. Author Brian Keene will host the event.

The convention will include panels, author readings and signings. Special guests will soon be announced.

A Scares That Care film festival will also take place for the categories of Horror Short, Horror Features, Sci-Fi Short, Sci-Fi Features, Thriller Short and Thriller Features.
